Celebrating the CHamoru People of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands

Guam is one of the 15 islands that make up the Mariana Islands. Today, this archipelago is divided into two U.S. political jurisdictions: the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and the U.S. territory of Guam. Located in the heart of the Western Pacific, 13.4443° N, 144.7937° E, Guam is an unincorporated territory of the United States, the largest of the Mariana and Micronesian islands, and home to some of the warmest people in the world. Guam and the CNMI are two separate territories, but both are part of the Mariana archipelago and Micronesia. Known for its white sand beaches, coral reefs, and crystal-clear ocean waters, Guam and the CNMI are the perfect destination for families, honeymooners, scuba divers, and anyone who enjoys a tropical climate with warm temperatures and beautiful beaches, providing a great setting for relaxation and opportunities for outdoor adventures.

Inspiration

Florentina Camacho Pablo, the author of Enchanting Tales of Guam, more commonly known as “Tina” by her family and friends, was deeply passionate about promoting and perpetuating the CHamoru culture and language. Originally from Guam, her matrilineage extends to Rota.

She was dedicated to forming alliances with other community leaders, authors, and artists to ensure the preservation of the CHamoru people’s treasures.

Tina’s love for literature and the arts inspired her to partner with other artists and storytellers to share the enchanting tales and legends of the CHamoru people with the goal of ensuring these treasures could continue to be passed down to present and future generations through published works.

Tina is the inspiration for establishing this foundation, which is dedicated to promoting and perpetuating the CHamoru culture and language through literature and the arts. This foundation honors her memory by continuing her legacy with the intention to inspire and develop the next generation of CHamoru storytellers and artists.
